Tarek explores how scientific and technological attempts to “decarbonize” the planet are giving shape to new societal understandings and relationships with carbon. He is broadly interested in approaching science and technology as material-discursive practices, and examining how these practices interplay with society to form new ontologies of nonhuman actors.
Tarek received his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University (2020) where his research focused on “sustainability in the built environment in Abu Dhabi”. He later pursued an MSc in Environmental Design and Engineering at the University College London (2021) and practiced as a sustainability specialist at an architecture firm before starting at MIT.
